    Children's Church School

Through music and various arts & crafts, the leaders strive to provide an understanding of what it means to lead a Christian life. The kids range in ages from 5 to 13 years with the older children helping the younger ones and the younger ones striving to be like the older kids. They often form lifelong relationships.

    Choir

Open to all wishing to lift up their voices as part of Worship Service, the members sing every Sunday from September through mid-June. Under the direction of Dr. F. Joseph Smith, a broad-range of music from traditional through contemporary is presented. Rehearsal is prior to the Sunday service. During the summer months, Church services may include solos, duets or instrumental offerings by choir members and others. For the Christmas season, choir and church members go caroling to reach out to our homebound members and return to the church afterward for warming hot chocolate & snacks.

Jesus, Mary, a Cup of Joe

Meeting at 10:00am prior to Worship Service, this is a discussion group led by Gloria Grasse-Hendrix, a deacon candidate at Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. Attendees explore an array of topics designed to promote spiritual formation as well as to prepare to more fully enter into the Worship Service following. Fair-trade coffee is provided free of charge to help get those brain muscles charged for a lively discussion.

    Knitting Circle

Originally formed to create prayer shawls to be given to individuals in crisis, this co-ed group brings together experienced and novice knitters. After finding that creating an entire shawl was a bit intimidating to some of the novices, the members began knitting or crocheting squares which are then bound together to form a blanket. Those attendees who find themselves “knitting-challenged” may work on their own type of craft during the monthly meetings or simply come to enjoy the fellowship. They usually meet after church on the second Sunday of the month. Since this is a noontime meeting, each person is invited to bring his/her own sandwich and, on a rotating basis, one person brings a side dish for all to share.

    Prayer Group

Anyone wishing to strengthen his/her spiritual life through prayer is welcome to participate. Although not meeting together as a group, participants commit to taking time in their individual lives to lift in prayer the joys and concerns that are collected each Sunday during Worship Service as well as throughout the week.

    A Second Cup of Joe

Following Worship Service, this group, also led by Gloria, is designed to relate that day’s sermon topic and/or the Bible readings to everyday life as well as to the teachings of other faith traditions. Works written by spiritual and religious leaders such as Kahil Gibran and Thich Nhat Hanh are woven into the fabric of these reflective sessions.

    SuperMen

Mostly comprised of individuals who are retired but anything but retiring, the members are a group of volunteers dedicated to maintaining the church building and grounds. These invaluable individuals enjoy the fellowship of working together on Wednesday mornings followed by lunching together. Important skills are shared and passed on from one volunteer to the other. The Church’s award-winning Japanese Memorial Garden, which includes a goldfish pond, is diligently maintained by these hard-working men.

    United Methodist Men

This group meets periodically and enjoy seasonal fellowship opportunities. By sponsoring two annual fundraising events – stoking the burners to turn out a mean bowl of chili for a winter Chili Fest and firing up the barbeque for a summer Grill Fest - these men also commit to helping the church to purchase much-needed equipment.

    Vacation Bible School (VBS)

Typically held during August, VBS is a highlight of the summer not only for our children but also for kids from the surrounding neighborhood. A great deal of creativity and ingenuity go into the activities scheduled for them during this three-day period. The congregation is encouraged to assist with the preparations and to participate as well. For everyone, three days never seems long enough.

    Walking Group

Affording an opportunity to keep fit as well as to enjoy weekly fellowship, this group walks and exercises in our gym on Wednesday and Friday mornings followed by a communal breakfast in our kitchen. Members take turns providing an array of healthy edibles to share.

    Working Women's Group

Getting together at a monthly luncheon following Worship Service, members offer one another support and a time for sharing the various creative endeavors in which they are actively engaged.
